We offer advice to authors at all stages of publication—from the initial idea to after the book has been published.

Is a publisher looking at your book, or perhaps made you an offer or sent a draft contract?

If this is the case, you need an agent right away. Publishers typically offer below-market advances and unfavorable contract terms to unagented authors. Yes, you could save the commission fee, by negotiating the deal and contract yourself, but you could be giving up a lot more!

Daniel Bial has negotiated over 500 deals and book contracts. He can get you the best terms, and do so while building a strong working relationship with your editor. Call or email right away to avoid costly mistakes.

As an experienced editor and book doctor, Dan can help fledgling authors develop their skills and fine-tune their manuscripts. This is a service Dan offers only to authors whom he will not represent as their agent. (Along with many others, Dan considers it unethical to sign authors to a literary agency agreement, and then charge them for manuscript editing). Dan will, however, help you find a literary agent when your manuscript is edited and rewritten.

Dan keeps a separate website on this service.
